Newspaper design notes

  1. Two sizses of newspaper
  • Broadsheet
  • Tabloid.
   2. Jumps - when an article starts on the front page and continues on the inside.
   3. Every good newspaper has a flag.
  • the flag can have a photo with its flag.
  4.folio- the folio includes the name of the city, the slogan, name of the section ,and page number.
  5. Headlines are a large font.
  • Headlines are complete sentences. ( Without punctuation at the end)
  6. there are three parts to a caption.
  • A caption head
  • captions must be two sentences long
  • the first sentence of the caption describes the action scene in the photo.
  • the first sentence be written in present tense.
  • the second sentence gives you background that you cant see in the photo.
  • include photo credit- who took the photo.
  7. Byline- includes the name of the author and their postion.       
  8. A thin line between stories ... also known as a story divider.
  9. infographic - a graphic with information.
  • it could be a chart or a nice little pie graph.
  10. the index is at the bottom of the front page.
  11. volume and issue number.
  12. journalistic decision making - where the stories go in the newspaper and ehats the most important storyy.

Front pages of the world ! ( :

  1. My favorite front page is the New York Post bc its not full of stories in the government and war and what not but it focuses on the entertainment industry.
  2. Its mainly focused on the oscars.
  3. They only have one.
  4. They all have a title or certain name.
  5. The number of stories and or photos.
