This cover of People features a black and white photograph of Princess Diana, and the issue is a tribute to her life after she was killed in August 1997 in a car crash. Diana appeared on the cover of the magazine a record 52 times and was one of the most popular People cover subjects. In 1981, she married Prince Charles and arguably became one of the most famous women in the world. She was lauded for her high-profile involvement in AIDS issues and for an international campaign against landmines. Diana's death was greeted with extraordinary public grief, and her funeral at Westminster Abbey drew an estimated three million mourners in London, as well as worldwide television coverage.
This is such a beautiful magazine cover because it shows Princess Diana's true beauty. This cover also aprart if history because it was the cover of People magazine after her death.

Self Portraits part 2

1 - If you’re taking photos in a studio, use a mannequin for light testing: Much easier than guesstimating!

Get Closer
The most common mistake made by photographers is that they are not physically close enough to their subjects. In some cases this means that the center of interest—the subject—is just a speck, too small to have any impact. Even when it is big enough to be decipherable, it usually carries little meaning. Viewers can sense when a subject is small because it was supposed to be and when it's small because the photographer was too shy to get close.
Don't be shy. If you approach people in the right way, they'll usually be happy to have their picture made. It's up to you to break the ice and get them to cooperate. Joke around with them. Tell them why you want to make the picture. Practice with people you know so that you are comfortable; people can sense when you aren't.

I like this photo because it shows a man in his environment . and the background is nice.

i like this photo because its a good self portrait.

i like this photo because it shows a person enjoying their environment
I like this photo because it doesnt look like she was told how to pose.

i plan on taking pictures of my best friend skylar  because she is would be a great model and she can fit into so many environments. i will mainly be taking pictures in the courtyard and fine arts building because she is a social butterfly and in AHA. I  will take pictures of her from different angles.

portraits and self portraits

these photos are both equally cause it shows a portrait kind of  focuses on more than one thing. the portrait is kind of like a story to me which to me every photo needs a story.

shortlist warm up

I like this landscape photo because the lighthing gives the ground a firey look.
i like this garden photo because it makes me think of the fall and how beautiful it can look sometimes.
i like this photo cause it tell a story that many people need to open their ears and listen to.
i like how this photo gets the woman's body shape as she gracefully leaps into the air.

i love this photo cause its so creative and it makes me think of the circus.

i like this fashion photo because the woman in the picture isnt super skinny like how the magazines portray all beautiful women.
i like this photo because its very creative and colorful, just like nature.
i like this photo because its very cute and romantic. it shows that moments like this dont only happen in movies.
i like this photo because it shows the coils, but little do most people know that these simple coils are really unique and grant wishes.

Ethics in fashion photography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer. (Look carefully)
  • Her neck was stretched out.
  • Her eyes were brought down.
  • Made her face smaller.
  • Made her eyes wider
2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
This is ethically unacceptable because its like telling every woman in the world that she will never be beautiful enough unless she was surgically fixed to perfection.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
Yes.

4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
Maybe if they fixed a blemish or two, it would be okay.

5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photograhy can change peoples apearance and not get a bad name for themselves unlike in photojournalism. In photojournalism people depend on the information given out. so therefore the photos must be real.

6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each?
Well, all types of photography has an effect on everybodys life. Wether its to catch up on whats going on in America to trying to be as pretty as the model in the magazine you read everyday.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics: Part 2

I believe this photo is the modt unethical because it can stur up unnecessary  problems in the government.

I think this photo is the least unethical because its not as if there isn't any diversity at UW. They do have diversity this could have been a mistake the person made and needed to fix it last minute.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics: Part 1

The main point of this story is that photo manipulation in some cases are inappropiate. Photo manipulation gives out the wrong information, especially during serious events, such as war.  Photo manipulation can cost you a well paid job, and credibility. I personally think photo manipulation shows how lazy a photographer really is.
I think this unethical because if you edit your photos that shows that your photographer that has no pride in their work. A confident photographer can take pictures that are  beautiful without using one bit of photoshop.

National geographic warm up.

I like this photo because it makes me think of  where i come from and my pointo of view of the state that im from. This photo is also very clean cut and beautiful. I think this photo has a story behind it.

Id take a photo of how diverse this world has become.

Abandoned Theme Parks (:

I like the Lincoln Park, amusement park in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. I want to go there because it has that creepy theme park look and feel to it due to the two deaths they had before becoming abandoned.

Five unusual places for a photograppher to shoot photos is:
  • Grave Yards
  • Abandoned mansions
  • Haunted locations
  • A hospital
  • A boring office

I think it would be interesting too photograph this place because of it authenticity. It also gives off a creepy adventurous vibe. I feel like if i were to take photos here i would discover something really creepy but at the same time a story of something beautiful, maybe even sad. I would expect to take photos of maybe the past and the disrepaired present, or a story about a family that once lived there for centuries.

In order to be able to take those photo i would have to figure out the location of this house ,and wether or not its still standing. I would probably need a camera that would shoot really good photos in a slighty dark areas  depending on the lighting from the sun or the lights inside the house.

Apperture (:

F2.8

Cool Video !

I would like to see a video featuring more about akins as a school. The maker of the video could have put better action shots in the video and also include volleyball.

Great photographers part 3

1.) What first caught your eye while looking at your photographers photos? Is there something in particular about their photos that made you want to choose them?

Not only are her photos diverse but aso are the people and the meaning of her photos are to. Margaret is someone most photograhers can look up especially female photographers.

2.)I see poverty, descrimination, and an unhealthy way of living. I smell bread and the gross smell of government cheese flowing in the atmosphere. I hear the sound of despare and suffering from the african americans that are upset that they have to live diferent from the "others". I taste what almost deems like a hint of failure to make a change. i feel sad for the people of their time.

3.) I would like to tell mey class about my great photographer through a power point so they can also see all the amzing photos she took.
1. What theme that we could take here at school could we do a series of these panels to place around the school?

Fashion.

2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?

Open it up to cameras therefore people without camera phones can do the project too.

3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus?

At the beggining of the AHA hall.

Warm up

1. What do you have to do on the camera to make this type of photo?

capturing multiple standard photographs

2. Look up a Canon T3 on google and tell me if it has the ability to shoot bracketed photos?

The cannon T3 does have the ability to shoot bracketed photos.

3. Is there a place on campus we could take a series of photos like this?

Yes.

4. I like this photo cause the colors are really shown and the water looks beautiful. The photographerlook at a technique to get HDR style images using layers in Photoshop.

Fixed Photo Shoot Post Reflection

1. What did you learn about the camera when you took these photos?

I learned how to set the f-stop, ISO, and shutter speed.

2. What do you notice about all the photos and the way they look?
Whenever i switched to anew shutter speed either the first few photos were really bright or really dark.
3. Can you tell the difference between each ISO? Explain how.

Kind of, because one ISO would have only bright pictures, and some had clear photos and dark photos .
5. What about focus? Can you see a difference in the photos? Tell me what differences and similarities you see.

Some of the photos are blurry and some of them are alot more clear.
6. ISO: 400 Shutter speed: 1/250 F-stop: 22.0 Distance: 2-3 yards Focal Length: 24.0 Lighting: sunny.

7. What do you need to concentrate on when you go out to shoot next time when you have to shoot in Manual setting?

I will need to focus on the  focus and the lighting of the area, so i can pick the correct ISO for my photos.

4. What does this tell you about ISOs and what it does when you change it when you take pictures.

The ISO changes the lighting of each shoot. The ISO and shutter speed work together on light but ISO is like the independent variabole in the relationship.

Academic Shoot Reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you?

One challenge i had was remembering what each rule meant and to make sure i didnt get them confused.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly.

I found myself thinking about how could i frame, focus, and hold the camera to get the best picture possible and also meeting the expectations of each rule.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?

If i could do this assignment again i would have done better focusing and framing.

4. What things would you do the same?

I would got to all of the same classes i went to during this shoot.

5. When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve?

Framing and Rule of thirds

6. Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture?

The hardest to capture would be avoiding mergers.

7. What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is?

Balance.

Africa

Reaction: There are so many different animals that live in Africa and they have little resources such as water. the water is so scarce it doesn't even reach a rhinoceros's ankle.

My favorite picture was the one with the two zebras standing side by side in the desert. Its my favorite picture because they look like the would never leave each others side with the struggle for food because of the lack of precipitation in their habitat.

Nick Brandt uses a Pentax 67II. His reason for taking pictures is to canish the natural gander of east africa. His hope is to show animals in the state of being before they no longer exist. " In the Amboseli region of East Africa- an extraordinary 2 million acre ecosystem in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, straddling Kenya and Tanzania- this elephant was just one of the many elephants killed in the last few years by poachers. In fact, most of the large-tusked elephants that are featured in my books are now dead, killed by poachers for their ivory."

Margaret Bourke-White Biography.

Margaret Bourke-White was born June 14, 1904 in The Bronx, New York. Margaret father was of Polish-Jewish and her mother was of Irish-English. Margaret was married twice; once to Everett Champman when she was 18; and to Eskine Caldwell, the writer, in 1939, after they had worked together. They divorced in 1942. She was a forerunner in the newly emerging field of photojournalism, and was the first female to be hired as such.
Margaret began to study photography as a very young woman. She developed the styles and techniques she needed for many formats on her own. Margaret Bourke-White is a woman of many firsts. She was a forerunner in the newly emerging field of photojournalism, and was the first female to be hired as such. She was the first photographer for Fortune magazine, in 1929. In 1930, she was the first Western photographer allowed into the Soviet Union.
She died August 27, 1971, in Connecticut.

Academic Shoot

-Balance. I feel that followed this rule very well. The subject is showing how the two objects are balanced with one another. To make this photo even beter i wish i could have gotten the boy closer to the things on the table.

-Lines. I feel like i followed this rule very well because  the line on the parking lot floor leads to the drumline practicing. This could be more easier to see if i would've gotten closer to the drumline.

 - Simplicity. i believe i followed this rule very well because there is nothing in the background that is taking the focus off of the main subject. i wish i could make the background a little more simple.
-Rule Of Thirds. i believe i followed this rule very well because if you were to put the lines on the picture you would see how there would be a point that meets where the to boys are located.

-Avoiding Mergers. i believe this is a god example of avoiding mergers because there is nothing or no one merging with her head. i wish i got her from a different angle to make picture a little bit more interesting.

-Framing. this isframing because the girl is working on academics in the foreground. this photo would have been better if the girl wasin focus instead of the bag.

Filling the frame

As you can see, the most interesting thing about this photo is the project the students are working on which is also well framed for a picture taken by a high school student.

Action and emotion

This photo is showing good action and emotion because action and emotion are kind of like cause and effect. A science experiment exploded and the young ladies showed a surprised look on their face.

The Story

This tells the best story because you can infer that this school is giving back to its community, not by just donating clothes and canned foods but actually getting out there and making the change themselves.

Post shoot reflection

1. What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos of your first 3 prompts (Red, Metal, Grumpy?

One challenge my group had was finding grumpy.

2. What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most?

I found myself mainly thinking about how to hold the camera to get a better shot.

3. If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography?

I  would make my photo more dynamic with framing and balance.

4. What things would you do the same?

I would have went to the same place I went to take my pictures.

Avoiding mergers

This is a good example of avoiding mergers because the President is not merging with the 9/11 memorial.

Frame

This a good example of framing because the main point if interest is giving the photo depth.

This a bad example of framing because there is too much stuff going on making it hard to find the point of interest.
